According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Patrick McCeur,at the first international conference and UNESCO World-Geo-Parks Development Training-specialized Workshop in Qeshm Island, said: In the past three years, Qeshm Island has witnessed a lot of changes and has become a part of the global geopark family, with its great efforts, and UNESCO is pleased to choose Qeshm Island as a source of information exchange.
He emphasized the need for information exchange and promotion among members of the Global Geopark Network, adding: Qeshm Geopark, as part of the global family of geoparks, can provide a platform for other areas with its own data.
Professor McCeur continued: By registering 13 new geoparks last year, 127 geoparks have been registered in 30 countries worldwide.
UNESCO's Program Director for International Geosciences and Geospatial Affairs said: Iran has a great geological heritage and Qeshm can be a model not only in this country but in the world.
The first international meeting and training workshops of the UNESCO Global Geoparks in the Islamic Republic of Iran were held in the Qeshm Free Area with the presence of Morteza Bank, adviser to the president and secretary of the Supreme Council for Free and Special Economic Areas.Esther Kuisch Laroche,Director of the UNESCO Office in Iran,Mahin Gazani, Secretary of the Committee of the National Commission for UNESCO of Tehran, Patrick McCeur, UNESCO's Program Director for International Geosciences and Geospatial Affairs, Nicolas Zurros, Head of the UNESCO World Geoparks Network, Razieh Lak, Head of Geological Survey of Iran, Hamidreza Momeni, Managing Director and Parvin Farshchi member of the Board of Directors of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Alireza Amirkazemi, director of Global Geopark of Qeshm, and deputies and directors of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Free and Special Economic Areas attended the ceremony.In the ceremony also unveiled the national stamp "Qeshm Global Geopark".
