According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Zone Organization, Hamid Reza Momeni, at a press conference which held at the conference hall of the ECO Cultural Institute in Tehran with the presence of the head of this Institute, quoting the capacities of Qeshm's global geopark, said: This global geopark, is the only geopark in the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa, which is a unique phenomenon in Qeshm and the country's tourism.
Referring to the hard process of Qeshm global geopark for membership in the UNESCO World geoparks Network, he added: By upgrading the standards in Qeshm geosites and over two and a half years of negotiation and follow-up, by the end of 1396, we succeeded in turning this geopark red card into a green card.
According to the CEO of Qeshm Free Zone Organization, Qeshm officially joined the UNESCO World Geoparks Network at the UNESCO World Geoparks World Summit in 1397 Ordibehesht, which was hosted by Qeshm with the presence of 27 countries with Geopark, according to Qeshm's Free Zone Organization.
Momeni emphasized in the choice of Qeshm Island as a destination for tourism by domestic and foreign tourists and said: Qeshm Island With an annual traffic of seven million tourists from the sea and air, is considered as one of the special areas of the country in the tourism industry.
He emphasized the cooperation between Qeshm and the 10 eco-countries with a priority for tourism, and continued: Considering the capabilities of Qeshm Island in various sectors such as fisheries, agriculture, oil, gas and energy, the island is also ready to expand economic relations with these countries.
In the end, CEO of Qeshm Free Zone Organization, pointed out in the presence of ECO ambassadors in Qeshm Island: We hope that signing the Memorandum of Understanding with the members of the ECO Cultural Institute being the beginning of cooperation of Qeshm Free Zone with these countries in various fields.
It is worth mentioning that the ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization) is a regional economic organization that founded in 1343 by three countries, Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey.
Currently, this organization consists of 10 countries including Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan, and works to improve the conditions for sustainable economic development of the member countries.
